I had to wait three or four months in order to borrow the ONE copy of Dance with Dragons. That just doesn’t add up.
In comes Amazon. With a Prime membership (which is a deal and a half for $80 a year), you can borrow one book per month and keep it for as long as you want.
Couple drawbacks:

You need a physical Kindle. iPad and iPhone apps do not count.

The selection is limited. None of the major publishers are on board with this. But these things start slow.
