The 30 Characters Challenge

November appears to be the month of challenges, what with National Novel Writing Month and National Blog Posting Month. In the spirit of the November challenges, Tyler James, creator of several webcomics, has organized the 30 Characters Challenge.

The challenge is to create 30 new characters, one for each day in November. We’ve been at it for a couple of weeks now, and there’s quite a collection of interesting new characters to thumb through on your lunch break. Head over and check out the great work that some pretty creative and talented people have been putting in.

Q-Burger Season 4 concludes and a new series begins

Season 4 of Q-Burger ends with a bang today, and a bit of a cliffhanger.

But fear not. Season 5 will fire up on January 6th, 2010. And it’ll be a little different this time round.

You’ll have issues with this change

I’ve been hard at work on Season 5, developing the story for the last year or so. It’s been a challenge, what with all the plot lines and characters and stuff. Almost as much of a challenge as it’s been for you folks to read and keep track of it all.

So I’ve decided to try a new approach in order to make this increasingly complicated story a little more easily consumed and digested. I’m going to be publishing Q-Burger in six-page issues on the first Wednesday of every month. Each issue will have a “cover” image, and five story pages.

I decided to go this route because most of the feedback I got from Season 4 was that the story was too difficult to keep track of when doled out just one page at a time, once a week. So in order to combat that, and give the reader a more satisfying and sustained comics experience, I’m taking the monthly, issue format.

I already have issue #1 pencilled, and I’ll be finishing up the script for #2 as soon as I’m done writing this entry, so I’m confident that, come January, I’ll have a recipe for sustainability and quality.

Fear not, you won’t go hungry

I can already hear your looming, gigantic question:

But if I only get to read a new comic once a month, what am I going to do for the weeks between issues?

I could tell you, but I’d rather show you…

…show you an 8-page preview of my new, twice-weekly comic, The Winchcombe!

The Winchcombe follows the journey of a historical Downtown Minneapolis bar, its owner, and crew as they struggle to return it to profitability and respectability. Another restaurant comic? I know, I know, but if you read the preview, you’ll soon see that The Winchcombe very different from my other restaurant comic.
